A sold-out audience was fortunate to hear Florida Power and Light’s Vice President of External Affairs, Jeff Bartel, speak about FPL’s 2006 Hurricane Preparedness Plan. NewChannel 5 Chief Meteorologist Steve Weagle was also on-hand to give an update from his perspective.

Chamber Chair-Elect Wendy Link introduced the sponsors: the Law Firm of Schwarzberg & Associates and Inter-Tel Technologies. Managing Partner Steve Schwarzberg announced that the firm is hosting a monthly employment law breakfast series session will spotlight some of the legal issues related to disasters such as hurricanes, and their affect on and ramifications for businesses and their employees. shrubs and trees so that they do not interfere with overhead lines. One of the biggest obstacles FPL faces after a hurricane is debris and downed trees. Hurricane Wilma was an exceptional storm that impacted every county that FPL services but even so, power was restored in a quicker, systematic way than in the summer of 2004.

NewsChannel 5 Chief Meteorologist Steve Weagle started his presentation with a video recap of Hurricane Wilma. In his comments, Steve warned of another busy hurricane season and explained the season’s possible storm paths.
