Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches Announces 2007 Business Awards Finalists

West Palm Beach, FL — The Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches is pleased to announce the Community Leader of the Year and the finalists for its 2007 Business Awards, sponsored by Regions Bank. Each year, the Chamber recognizes individuals in four categories for their contributions and dedication to the business community. These categories include Small Business Person of the Year, Business of the Year, Non-Profit of the Year, and Health Care Heroes®, sponsored by AXA Advisors. Winners will be announced at the Business Awards Breakfast on May 17, 2007 at 7:45 a.m., taking place at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, 650 Okeechobee Boulevard West Palm Beach, FL 33401.

The Community Leader of the Year for 2007 is Byron Russell, Cheney Brothers. The Community Leader of the Year award recipient is chosen by the Chamber’s Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. Criteria is based on demonstrated active participation in Chamber activities, economic impact to Palm Beach County, and commitment to community involvement.

The finalists for The Small Business Person of the Year are Jane Bloom, Ink & Toner USA; Paul Ramkissoon, CynFyn Solutions and Karen Lendi Williamson, ImageWorks. The Small Business Person of the Year award is given to an outstanding business owner or operator whose company has excelled in management, growth, use of innovation, and community contributions. The selection criteria are measured by growth in employees – and/or sales, effective business management, participation in community projects, long-term (3 + years) staying power by responding to adversity, and providing an innovative product or service. The Finalists for The Business of the Year Award are United Franchise Group and Schwarzberg Spector Duke & Rogers. The Business of the Year Award is presented to a company that demonstrates economic impact to Palm Beach County and a commitment to community involvement, demonstrates continued growth and profitability, and long-term (5 + years) staying power by responding to adversity.

The finalists for the Non-Profit of the Year are Quantum House; The Jewish Community Center of the Greater Palm Beaches; and Compass, Inc. The Non-Profit of the Year Award is presented to a 501(c)3 organization that demonstrates commitment to community involvement and shows consistent accomplishments in fulfilling their organizational mission statement.

The finalists for Health Care Heroes® are David Dorfman, DC, Mobile Chiropractic; David M. Kanter, MD, MBA, St. Mary’s Medical Center; and Teresa J. Guzman, RN, COO, Hospice of Palm Beach County. New this year, the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches added the Health Care Heroes® award, sponsored by AXA Advisors. This award recognizes the achievements of a Physician, Dentist, Nurse, Health Care Administrator, Department Head, Allied Health Professional, Researcher, Academic, or Inventor who has made a difference to significantly improve healthcare in Palm Beach County.

The 2007 Business Awards Breakfast, presented by Regions Bank, will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2007 at 7:45 a.m. at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, where the 2007 award recipients will be announced.
